Is It Good to Unconditionally Forgive Others?

Abstract:

Hlavním tématem této práce je otázka po bezpodmínečném odpuštění, a jestli je dobré takto odpouštět druhým. Odpuštění budu nejprve v první části definovat obecně pomocí článku Aurela Kolnai a článku Eve Garrardové a Davida McNaughtona. Nejprve pojem přečinu, poté postoj, který zastává odpouštějící, aby mohl správně odpustit a nakonec i pojem prominutí, aby byl pojem odpuštění lépe definován, dále pak vysvětlím tři společné prvky odpuštění. V druhé části práce budu definovat dvě různá pojetí, jak odpouštět. Vysvětlím pojem métanoia jak u viníka, tak u odpouštějícího. Métanoia u viníka, podmínečné odpuštění, bude definována na základě článku Kolnaie. Métanoiu u odpouštějícího, bezpodmínečné odpuštění, na základě rozhovoru Jacquese Derridy a dále článku Eve Garrard/Davida McNaughtona.

Abstract:

The main topic of this thesis is the question of unconditional forgiveness and whether it is good to forgive others in such way. Forgiveness will be in the first part defined generally according to the articles by Aurel Kolnai and Eve Garrard/David McNaughton. The concept of wrongdoing will be defined at first then the attitude will be discussed which the forgiver must have to forgive correctly. Finally I?ll focus on the concept of condoning to define forgiveness in a better way. Furthermore I will explain the three common elements of forgiveness. In the second part I will define two different concepts how to forgive. I will explain the concept of métanoia both at the forgivers and wrongdoers part. Métanoia at the wrongdoers? part, the conditional forgiveness, will be based on the article by Aurel Kolnai. Métanoia on the forgivers? part, the unconditional forgiveness, will be based on the interview with Jacques Derrida and on the article by Eve Garrard / David McNaughton.
