Festivals and traditions of winter religious holidays among Czechs and Russians in comparative aspect

Abstract:

Předložená bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na problematiku komparace slavností a tradic zimních církevních svátků u Čechů a Rusů. Studie je rozčleněna na pět částí. První část popisuje tendence předcházející vzniku svátků, druhá část se zabývá obecným pojetím Vánoc, jejich etymologií a historickým vývojem. Třetí kapitola charakterizuje předvánoční přípravné období, které je doplněno přehledem vánočních svátků. Čtvrtý díl je věnován ústředním dnům Vánoc. Pátá část představuje svátky vánočního oktávu, tedy svátky po Vánocích. Cílem práce bylo identifikovat shodné a rozdílné aspekty v oslavách zimních církevních svátků v českém a ruském prostoru a poukázat na jejich vzájemnou kontinuitu a provázanost s lidovým pojetím. Na základě provedené studie byly definovány identické i disharmonické jevy v rámci oslav a tradic zimních svátků v ruském i českém areálu.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on the issue of comparing the festivities and traditions of winter religious holidays of the Czechs and Russians. The study is divided into five parts. The first part describes the trend preceding the emergence of the holidays, the second part deals with the general idea of Christmas, its etymology and historical development. The third chapter describes the preparatory period before Christmas, which is complemented by an overview of the Christmas holidays. The fourth section is devoted to the focal days of Christmas. The fifth section presents the ChristmasOctave, i.e. the holidays after Christmas. The aim of this thesis was to identify common and different aspects of celebrations of winter religious festivals in the Czech and Russian environment and to point out their mutual continuity and consistency withpopular conceptions. Based on a performed studyboth identical and disharmonious phenomena in the celebrations and traditions of the winter holidays in the Russian and Czech areas were defined.
