The rehabilitation protocol of a sports patient following reverse shoulder prosthesis: clinical case

Abstract:

The shoulder is the most complex joint in the human body, it connects the upper limb to trunk and it allows an higher degree free movements. However, due to fractures, trauma or more simply due to processa gain linked (arthrosis) it is often subject to functional and mechanical instability. Depending on the type of patient, a conservative rehabilitation protocol will be adopted or, if needed, a surgical approach will be required through the prosthetic implant. The prosthetic surgery could beconducred either by Total Prosthesis implantation with the complete replacement of the joint, or the Partial Prosthesis (Hemiarthroplasty) with the replacement of the humeral head only, and by Reverse Prosthesis, in which the prosthetic components are inverted. On this paper a clinical case of a sports patient with reverse shoulder prosthesis implantation will be described. The purpose of the thesis will be to present and evaluate the rehabilitation program on this patient in order to allow his return to sporting activity.

Abstract:

La spalla ? l'articolazione pi? complessa del corpo umano, connette l'arto superiore al tronco e permette movimenti con maggior grado di libert?. Molto spesso, per? ? soggetta ad instabilit? funzionali e meccaniche in seguito a fratture, traumi o semplicemente legate al processo di invecchiamento (artrosi). A seconda della tipologia di paziente, quindi, conseguir? un protocollo riabilitativo conservativo o, dove quest'ultimo fosse insufficiente sar? necessario l'approccio di tipo chirurgico attraverso l'impianto protesico. L'intervento protesico vedr? l'impianto di una protesi totale, ovvero la sostituzione completa dell'articolazione, protesi parziale (emiartroplastica) attraverso la sostituzione della sola testa omerale, o una protesi inversa, in cui le componenti protesiche sono invertite. All'interno di questo elaborato sar? descritto un caso clinico di un paziente sportivo successivo ad impianto di una protesi di spalla di tipo inversa. L'obiettivo della tesi sar? quello di descrivere e valutare il programma riabilitativo su tale paziente per un successivo ritorno alla sua attivit? sportiva.
