Transnistria in contemporary Geopolitics

Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce se zaměřuje na situaci a význam tzv. Podněsterské moldavské republiky v současné geopolitice. Nejprve je toto území analyzováno dle tradiční osnovy pro regionálně geografické otázky (vymezení a poloha, přírodní potenciál, historické souvislosti - vliv na současnost, obyvatelstvo, hospodářství - trendy a struktura a zhodnocení - problémy). Následně se práce zabývá historickým vývojem konfliktu až po tzv. válku v Podněstří a pokusy o vyřešení konfliktu, jednotlivými rovinami konfliktu mezi PMR a Moldavskem, rolí klíčových vnějších aktérů (Rusko, Ukrajina, EU, Rumunsko) a postoji vybraných mezinárodních organizací (NATO, OSN, SNS). V závěru teoretické části je proveden pokus o predikci budoucího vývoje. Praktická část práce je tvořena dotazníkovým šetřením, ve kterém jsou respondenti konfrontováni s otázkami týkajících se povědomí o PMR a dalších vybraných separatistických regionech (Jižní Osetie, Abcházie, Náhorní Karabach, Katalánsko, Baskicko, Vlámsko a Skotsko). Respondenti uvádí, odkud pochází jejich informace o PMR, případně odkud by čerpali, pokud ještě o konfliktu mezi PMR a Moldavskem neslyšeli. Zbývající otázky zjišťují i pojetí respondentů o PMR a Moldavsku a jejich postoje vůči PMR. Respondenty budou studenti střední (Gymnázium Teplice) a vysoké školy (studenti bakalářského a navazujícího magisterského studia katedry geografie na Přf UJEP). Jejich výsledky budou následně komparovány.

Abstract:

Submitted diploma thesis is focused on the situation and the importance of the so-called Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic in current geopolitics. Firstly, this territory is analysed according to the traditional curriculum for regional geographic issues (definition and location, natural potential, historical context - impact on the present, population, economy - trends and structure and appreciation - problems). Subsequently, the thesis looks at historical development of the conflict, up to the so-called war in Transnistria and attempts to resolve the conflict, the various levels of conflict between the PMR and Moldova, the role of key external actors (Russia, Ukraine, the EU, Romania) and the positions of selected international organisations (NATO, UN, CIS). In the end of the theoretical section is made an attempt to predict future development. The practical part of the thesis is made up of a survey, in which respondents are confronted with questions about awareness of PMR and other selected separatis regions (South Ossetia, Abkhazia, Nagorno-Karabakh, Catalonia, the Basque Country, Flanders and Scotland). Respondents indicate where their information about PMR came from or where they would draw from if they had not yet heard about the conflict between the PMR and Moldvoa. The remaining questions find out respondents perceptions of the PMR and Moldova and their attitudes towards the PMR. The respondents will be students from secondary school (Teplice grammar school) and university (students from the bachelor´s and follow-up master´s degree in the department of geography at Jan Evangelista Purkyně university in Ústí nad Labem). Their results will be then compared.
