Renaissance Courts as Centres of Science and Art: Court of Medici

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce prezentuje Medicejský dvůr, jako centrum vědy, umění a filosofie. Záměrem této práce je představit díla a tvorbu autorů, kteří byli ovlivněni působením mecenášské činnosti rodu Medici. V první části práce je prostřednictvím textů zaměřujících se na společenské dění renesanční epochy vyloženo, jak rozšířená mecenášská činnost tehdy byla. Součástí této kapitoly je také vyložení života Niccola Machiavelliho, který byl vázán na rod Medicejských. Vliv rodu se následně projevil i v Machiavelliho tvorbě. V druhé části práce bude vyloženo členění mecenášské činnosti a samotných patronů. Dále je v této kapitole prezentován život Giorigia Vasariho a Leonarda da Vinciho. V rámci Leonardovy anatomické tvorby bude skrze interpretaci textu vyloženo Leonardovo pojetí vidění lidského oka. Poslední kapitola bude věnována filosofii. V oblasti mecenátu filosofie se výrazně projevil Cosimo Medici, který podpořil založení Platónské akademie ve Florencii. Prostřednictvím analýzy vybraných textů bude akademie představena jako místo, kde se filosofové jako Marsilio Ficino a Pico della Mirandola mohli věnovat studiu Platónských a novoplatónských textů.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis presents the Renaissance court of Medici as a centre of science, art and philosophy. The aim of the thesis is to show the work of authors who were influenced by activities of the court of Medici in area of patronage. In the first chapter there is explained the extent of patronage as it used to be through texts which are focused on the Renaissance epoch. In this part is also interpreted the life of Niccolo Machiavelli. His life was related to the court of Medici and it significantly influenced Machiavelli´s work. In the second chapter will presented the division of patronage and the classification of people who devote themselves to patronage. Later in this chapter is presented the life of Giorgio Vasari and Leonardo da Vinci. In the work about anatomy by Leonardo will be explained Leonardo's conception of seeing of a human eye. The last chapter will be devoted to philosophy. In this area Cosimo Medici supported the foundation of Platonic Academy in Florence and then he became a patron of this academy. Through analysis of a selected text will be the academy presented as a place for philosophers, where for example Marsilio Ficino and Pico della Mirandola could study Platonic and Neoplatonic treatise.
