The Artist's Book as a Specific Form of Photographic Project Presentation: Contemporary Trends

Abstract:

Disertační práce se zabývá autorskou fotografickou knihou (photobookworks) jako dílem, které prezentuje fotografické projekty v knižním médiu a bylo vytvořeno v rámci uměleckého diskurzu nebo je do kontextu světa umění řazeno. Analytická část práce sleduje vyjadřovací prostředky autorských fotografických knih (kontext vytvářený uspořádáním fotografií, případný doprovodný text, grafický design, technické provedení) a srovnává je s dalšími obvyklými médii užívanými pro prezentaci fotografických projektů (instalace, internet). Druhá část práce vychází ze stručného historického přehledu klíčových prací a sleduje současné trendy v tvorbě autorských fotografických knih. Součástí disertační práce je i soubor autorských fotografických knih, které byly prezentovány v roce 2018 na výstavě Šedé město v Galerii 2 Domu umění v Ústí nad Labem.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the artist's photobook as artwork (photobookwork) which uses the medium of a book to present photography projects and which has been created as part of an art discourse or has been placed in the context of an art world. The analytical part of the work maps the means of expression that artist's photobooks offer (context created by sequencing of photographs, optional accompanying text, graphic design, technical rendition) and compares them with those of other media typical for presenting photography projects (installations, the internet). The second part of the thesis draws on a brief historical overview of key works and at the same time follows current trends in artist's photobooks. The thesis includes a set of artist's photobooks, which were presented at the Grey City exhibition at Gallery 2 at the House of Arts in Ústí nad Labem in 2018.
