Diplomová práce pojednává o významném představiteli oboru somatopedie a osobnosti speciální pedagogiky Janu Chlupovi. Ten svou celoživotní práci věnoval lidem s tělesným postižením. Diplomová práce je dělena do čtyř kapitol. První kapitola sleduje vývoj oboru somatopedie, přístupů k lidem s postižením, chápání pojmu postižení a ústavní péče.
