Speaking anxiety in German lessons and its mitigation

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with concerns about elementary school students' speaking in German language classes, their causes, and didactic-methodical procedures to alleviate or even eliminate these concerns. The first part meticulously analyzes the current concept of teaching the German language, its goals, and methodological-didactic procedures for acquiring speaking skills. It then presents, based on professional literature, the theoretical causes of the emergence of fears about speaking. Importantly, this section also provides practical and effective methodological and didactic procedures that can be readily implemented to alleviate these fears, thereby enhancing the quality of German language education. The second part of the thesis presents the research results, which aimed to discover the existence and causes of fears about speaking in German language classes among pupils of grades 7-9 and to describe procedures that would contribute to mitigating or eliminating these fears based on theoretical starting points and fact-finding.

Abstract:

ANOTACE Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou obav z mluvení žáků základní školy v hodinách německého jazyka, příčinami těchto obav a didakticko-metodickými postupy, jak tyto obavy zmírňovat nebo dokonce odstraňovat. V první části je analyzován současný koncept výuky německého jazyka, její cíle a metodicko-didaktické postupy při získávání dovednosti mluvení. Následně jsou v tomto procesu na základě odborné literatury teoreticky představeny příčiny vzniku obav z mluvení a zároveň uvedeny možné metodicko-didaktické postupy ke zmírňování těchto obav. Ve druhé části práce jsou prezentovány výsledky výzkumu, který měl za cíl zjistit existenci a příčiny obav z mluvení v hodinách německého jazyka u žáků 7. – 9. ročníků a popsat postupy, které by přispěly ke zmírnění nebo odstranění těchto obav, a jež se opírají o teoretická východiska i výsledky výzkumného šetření.
