Jean Rhys is a mid-twentieth century novelist whose fiction was particularly influenced by her origins of the Caribbean island of Dominica. Since she inserted much of her experience into her female protagonists, they in majority bear the signs of post-imperialism and post-colonialism, such as passivity, alienation, non-conformity and anger.
