Abstract:

Předkládaná disertační práce se zabývá hodnocením možností a omezení infračervené a Ramanovy spektroskopie při analýze malířských výtvarných děl. Ke komparaci výsledků byly vybrány následující metody: optická mikroskopie (OM), rtg. fluorescenční analýza (XRF), rastrovací elektronová mikroskopie s energiově disperzní spektrometrií (SEM-EDS), rtg. prášková difrakce (pXRD) a rtg. prášková mikro-difrakce (mikro-pXRD). V rámci mikro-infračervené spektroskopie byly testovány techniky zeslabeného úplného odrazu (ATR) a spekulární reflektance (SR) pro identifikaci nejběžnějších organických pojiv (žloutek, kasein, klíh a olej) v různých poměrech v anorganické matrici (uhličitany, sírany, křemičitany) modelových směsí a pro jejich analýzu v hlinkových podkladech mikrovzorků pěti barokních maleb. Výsledky měření ukázaly, že deformace pásů anorganických pigmentů v SR spektrech významně ovlivňují identifikaci pojiv; nejlepších výsledků měření bylo dosaženo u olejového pojiva. Při analýze mikrovzorků podkladů bylo možné SR technikou rozpoznat části podkladů kontaminované izolací z podložky a rovněž odlišné složení vícevrstvých podkladů. Při měření mikrovzorků zalitých v syntetické pryskyřici dosahovala technika mikro-ATR lépe interpretovatelných spekter, nicméně v případě měření samostatných fragmentů malířských děl přítlak ATR krystalu vedl k jejich rozdrcení a sklouznutí krystalu z povrchu vzorků s nejasnou lokalizací měřeného místa. V rámci testování mikro- a FT-Ramanovy spektroskopie byly zvoleny lasery emitující při vlnových délkách 532, 633, 780 a 1064 nm pro analýzu materiálů se slabým signálem v Ramanových spektrech. Konkrétně se jednalo o referenční vzorky hlinkových pigmentů obsahující bílé jílové minerály, zelené a červené hlinky. Dále byly analyzovány pigmenty v modelových barevných vrstvách představujících malbu přelomu 19. a 20. století. Metody byly aplikovány nejen na modelové vzorky, ale rovněž na mikrovzorky odebrané z obrazů: na osm mikrovzorků získaných z historických obrazů obsahujících jílové pigmenty v podkladech a barevných vrstvách a deset mikrovzorků ze sedmi obrazů dvou světově proslulých moderních malířů: Edvarda Muncha a Františka Kupky. Bylo zjištěno, že laser o vlnové délce 1064 nm poskytuje nejlepší spektra pro rozlišování bílých jílových minerálů, zatímco lasery s budícím zářením 532 nebo 780 nm lze odlišit zelené hlinky. U červených hlinek bylo možné identifikovat pouze příměsi oxidů (anatas, hematit), zatímco dominantně zastoupené jílové minerály často neposkytovaly vůbec žádný signál. Při měření anorganických pigmentů v barevných vrstvách moderních maleb bylo zjištěno, že statisticky nejlepších výsledků identifikace přítomných složek dosahuje laser o vlnové délce 780 nm. Na druhou stranu jen díky laserům s budícím zářením ve VIS oblasti bylo možné identifikovat pigmenty jako je zinková nebo chromová žluť, což významně napomohlo zpřesnit složení barevných vrstev dvou maleb od E. Muncha. Optimální je tedy možnost kombinovat při analýze více vlnových délek laserového záření. Nicméně pro plnou charakterizaci použité palety pigmentů je třeba vždy kombinovat Ramanovu spektroskopii s dalšími metodami (SEM-EDS, pXRD). Testování proběhlo nejenom na laboratorních přístrojích, ale rovněž na snadno přenosných FTIR a Ramanových spektrometrech s excitací záření při 780 nm pro zcela neinvazivní analýzu obrazů. žit k charakterizaci organických aditiv v papírovině a rozlišení různých druhů papírů u osmi jednovrstvých maleb na papíře. Mobilní Ramanův spektrometr byl vybrán pro analýzu unikátní nástěnné malby v kostele sv. Havla v Kuřívodech, díky kterému se podařilo identifikovat pigmenty se silným signálem v Ramanových spektrech (rumělka) v koncentracích pro jiné metody za hranicí detekce. Následně se mikro-Ramanovou spektroskopií s laserem emitujícím při vlnové délce 532 nm podařilo v mikrovzorcích z nástěnné malby identifikovat vzácný minerální pigment krokoit, jehož objevení napomohlo určit stáří malby do období konce 13. století.

Abstract:

This dissertation thesis deals with the evaluation of advantages and limitations of infrared and Raman spectroscopy in the analysis of painted works of art. Following methods were selected for the comparison of obtained results: optical microscopy (OM), X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF), scanning electron microscopy – energy dispersive spectrometry (SEM-EDS), powder X-ray diffraction (pXRD) and powder X-ray micro- -diffraction (micro-pXRD). Within the study of infrared spectroscopy, attenuated total reflectance (ATR) and specular reflectance (SR) techniques were tested for the identification of common organic binders (egg yolk, casein, glue and oil) in inorganic matrices in various ratios (carbonates, sulphates, silicates) in model mixtures and for their analysis in earth ground layers in micro-samples of five baroque paintings. The results of measurements showed that the deformations of bands of inorganic pigments in SR spectra significantly influence the identification of binders; the best measurement results were obtained with the oil binder. During the analysis of micro- -samples by SR technique, it was possible to distinguish parts of the grounds contaminated by isolation of the support as well as different composition of multi-layer grounds. When measuring the micro-samples embedded in synthetic resin, the micro-ATR technique resulted in spectra with higher interpretability, however, during the measurement of loose fragments, the pressure of the ATR crystal led to their crushing and the crystal slid from the samples’ surface resulting in unclear localisation of the measurement spot. Within the testing of micro- and FT-Raman spectroscopy, lasers with four different excitation wavelengths (532, 633, 780 a 1064 nm) were selected for the analysis of materials with weak signal in Raman spectra. These materials encompassed reference samples of earthy pigments – white clay minerals, green and red earths. Furthermore, the analyses were performed also on pigments in model colour layers representing the painting of the turn of the 19th and the 20th century. The measured samples included not only the model ones, but also actual micro-samples of paintings: eight micro-samples obtained from historic paintings containing clay pigments in grounds and colour layers and ten micro-samples from seven paintings of two worldwide famous modern painters – Edvard Munch and František Kupka. The laser with 1064 nm excitation wavelength was found to provide the best results for the differentiation between white clay minerals, while the employment of lasers with 532 or 780 nm excitation wavelength led to successful identification of green earths. Regarding the red earths, it was possible to identify only oxide admixtures (anatase, hematite), while the predominant clay minerals’ components often did not provide any signal. During the measurement of inorganic pigments in colour layers of modern paintings, it was found out that – statistically – the best results in identification of present compounds were achieved using the 780 nm excitation wavelength. On the other hand, only thanks to the lasers with excitation wavelengths in the VIS part of the spectra the identification of pigments like zinc or chrome yellow was made possible, thus significantly improving the characterisation of the composition of colour layers of two of the E. Munch’s paintings. Therefore, optimally, several laser excitation wavelengths should be used for the analysis. Nevertheless, for the full characterisation of the employed palette of pigments, it is always necessary to combine Raman spectroscopy with other methods (SEM-EDS, pXRD). The testing was performed not only with laboratory instruments, but also with easily portable FTIR and Raman spectrometers (785 nm laser) for non-invasive analysis of paintings. pectra were compared with the ones obtained by laboratory FTIR spectrometer. Subsequently, the handheld FTIR spectrometer in the diffuse reflectance (DRIFT) setting was employed for the characterisation of organic additives in paper stock and the differentiation of paper types of eight paintings on paper. Mobile Raman spectrometer was selected for the analysis of unique wall painting in the church of St. Gallus in Kuřívody, which led to identification of pigments with strong signal in Raman spectra (cinnabar) in concentration below the level of detection of other methods. Subsequently, using Raman micro-spectroscopy (532 nm laser), an extremely rare pigment crocoite was identified in the micro-samples obtained from the mural, thus contributing to the dating of the wall painting to the end of the 13th century.
