Psychological aspects of voluntary female sterilisation

Abstract:

Magisterská diplomová práce mapuje zkušenost žen, které dobrovolně bez zdravotní indikace podstoupily sterilizaci. Byly provedeny rozhovory s pěti dobrovolně bezdětnými ženami, které sterilizaci zvolily jako formu nejvhodnější antikoncepce. Rozhovory byly analyzovány pomocí interpretativní fenomenologické analýzy. Výsledky jsou prezentovány z pohledu každé z respondentek i z pohledu společných témat, kterými jsou „Dobrovolná bezdětnost“, „Strach z těhotenství“, „Svoboda“, „Reakce okolí“, „Nebýt na to sama“ a „Informace = všechno“. Výsledky jsou zasazeny do kontextu předchozích výzkumů, jsou prezentované limity studie i možné další výzkumné směřování v této problematice.

Abstract:

The master’s thesis explores the experience of women who voluntarily underwent sterilisation without a medical indication. Interviews with five childfree women were conducted. These women chose sterilisation as the most appropriate form of contraception. Interpretative phenomenological analysis was used to analyse the interviews. Results are presented from the perspective of each respondent and from the perspective of emerging themes that include “Being childfree”, “Fear of pregnancy”, “Freedom”, “Reaction of others”, “Not being alone”, and “Information = everything”. Results are discussed in the context of previous research. Limits and further research direction are considered.
