The paleoecological characteristics at Klaksvík (Eemian, MIS 5e, Faroe Islands)

Abstract:

V této práci jsem se zaměřila na využití bioindikátorových charakteristik určených taxonů k rekonstrukci paleoprostředí zkoumané lokality Klaksvík (ostrov Bor?oy, Faerské ostrovy). K rekonstrukci mi posloužilo sedm taxonů z řádu Coleoptera (brouci), které byly již dříve nalezeny a publikovány v této lokalitě (Trechus quadristriatus, Pterostichus nigrita, Cercyon tristis, Eucnecosum brachypterum, Lathrobium sp., Stenus sp., Aleocharinae indet). Vytčený cíl jsem splnila především podrobným popisem těchto taxonů, zaměřeným na jejich ekologické nároky. Díky tomu jsem mohla vyhodnotit charakter paleoprostředí lokality Klaksvík v době vzniku zkoumaných vrstev sedimentů. Na základě zhodnocení dosud nalezených a publikovaných druhů brouků ze zkoumané lokality usuzuji, že klima v období eemského interglaciálu zde bylo mírné, pravděpodobně teplejší než dnes. Krajina zde byla tvořena otevřenou vegetací s ostrůvkovitým výskytem lesních porostů, s hojnou přítomností vodních ploch, což zaručovalo stinné a vlhké prostředí. Dále jsem se věnovala zpracování vlastních paleontologických nálezů, shromážděných vedoucím mé bakalářské práce, opět se zaměřením na brouky. Protože nebylo možné zajistit jejich determinaci, zaměřila jsem se na vyhodnocení jejich abundance v rámci jednotlivých odběrových vrstev. V těchto zkoumaných vzorcích jsem zjistila 638 exemplářů fosilní fauny, 2507 statoblastů mechovek a 4 živočišné fosílie, které nebyly blíže identifikovány. Výsledky této práce umožňují přesnější stav poznání lokality, která je i v rámci celých Faerských ostrovů unikátní a připravují pole pro další paleoekologický výzkum.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is focused on the use of bioindicator characteristics of specified taxa for the reconstruction of the paleoenvironment of the investigated locality Klaksvík (Bor?oy Island, Faroe Islands). Seven taxa within the order Coleoptera (beetles), which were found and published in this locality (Trechus quadristriatus, Pterostichus nigrita, Cercyon tristis, Eucnecosum brachypterum, Latrhrobium sp., Stenus sp., Aleocharinae indet), were used for this purpose. I fulfilled the set goal mainly by a detailed description of the above mentioned taxa, focused on their ecological demands. Thanks to this, I was able to evaluate the character of the paleoenvironment of the Klaksvík locality at the time of the formation of the studied sediment layers. Based on the evaluation of the species of beetles found and published so far from the researched locality, I conclude that the climate here was mild, probably warmer than today during the Eemian interglacial. The landscape here was formed by open vegetation with an islet occurrence of forest stands, with an abundant presence of water areas, which guaranteed a shady and humid environment. I also worked on the processing of my own paleontological findings, collected by the supervisor of my bachelor's thesis, again focusing on beetles. Because it was not possible to ensure their determination, I focused on the evaluation of their abundance within the individual sampling layers. In these examined samples I found 638 specimens of fossil fauna, 2507 statoblasts of bryozoans and four other animal fossils, which were not further identified. The results of this work allow a more accurate state of knowledge of the site, which is unique in the entire Faroe Islands and prepare the field for further paleoecological research.
