The Building of the Cimburk Domain in Moravia in 14th Century

Abstract:

Počátkům dějin pánů z Cimburka nebyla dosud v literatuře věnována patřičná pozornost. Proto jsou v této diplomové práci podrobněji popsány osudy prvních Cimburků v první polovině 14. století od zakladatele rodu Bernarda I., jež nechal postavit hrad Cimburk u Trnávky, až po jeho vnuka Ctibora I. Tovačovského, který přesunul rodové sídlo do Tovačova. Těžištěm této práce je ovšem život a dílo Bernarda II. z Cimburka, jehož osudy jsou spojeny s cimburským panstvím v Chřibech na řece Stupávce, kde můžeme najít hrad nový Cimburk a městečko Koryčany, jež se Bernardovou zásluhou stalo významnou obchodní křižovatkou. Právě vznik a vybudování tohoto dominia je v této práci podroben detailnímu rozboru. Bernard II. zde vystavěl nový hrad a zavedl správní a ekonomickou strukturu typickou pro menší šlechtická panství na Moravě v polovině 14. století.

Abstract:

The beginnings of history of Lords of Cimburk have not been treated with enough attention in literature till this time. Therefore this thesis deals in detail with lives of the first Lords of Cimburk in the first half of the fourteenth century, from the founder of the house Bernard I., who put to build the castle of Cimburk by the Trnávka village, to his grandson Ctibor I. of Tovačov, who relocated the seat of the house to Tovačov. The thesis focuses on the life and work of Bernard II. of Cimburk, whose destiny is connected with the Cimburk estate in Chřiby on the Stupávka river, where we can find the New Cimburk castle and the town of Koryčany, which due to Bernard II. became a city of commercial prosperity and a junction point of trade roads. This very beginning and rise of this dominion is subjected to detailed analysis in the thesis. Bernard II. raised a new castle here and established administrative and economic pattern typical for minor estates in Moravia in the second half of the fourteenth century.
