The relationship between autonomy and time perspective in emerging adulthood

Abstract:

Cílem této práce bylo prozkoumat vztah prožívané autonomie a časové perspektivy ve vynořující se dospělosti. Byla zjišťována souvislost prožívané autonomie s jednotlivými časovými orientacemi (negativní minulost, pozitivní minulost, hedonistická přítomnost, fatalistická přítomnost a budoucnost) a s vyváženou časovou perspektivou. Výzkumu se zúčastnilo celkem 322 respondentů ve věku 18-25 let. Na základě analýz se podařilo potvrdit předpoklad, že orientace na negativní minulost a orientace na fatalistickou přítomnost jsou spojeny s nižší mírou prožívané autonomie a orientace na hedonistickou přítomnost a orientace na budoucnost jsou s prožívanou autonomií naopak v pozitivním vztahu. Dále bylo zjištěno, že lidé s vyváženou časovou perspektivou prožívají vyšší míru autonomie. Výsledky studie jsou diskutovány s ohledem na období vynořující se dospělosti, v němž hrají jak autonomie, tak časová perspektiva důležitou roli.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis was to explore the relationship between perceived autonomy and time perspective in emerging adulthood. Perceived autonomy was found to be linked to respective time perspectives (past negative, past positive, present hedonistic, present fatalistic, future) as well as to balanced time perspective. 322 respondents (age 18-25) participated in the research. Based on the analyses, we managed to verify the presupposition that orientation on past negative and orientation on present fatalistic are related to lower levels of perceived autonomy, and that orientation on present hedonistic and orientation on future are related positively to perceived autonomy. In addition, we found that people with balanced time perspective have higher levels of perceived autonomy. The results are discussed with respect to emerging adulthood where both autonomy and time perspective play an important role.
