Faith Spaces and Places of Czech Belivers

Abstract:

Dizertační práce se zabývá zkoumáním geografické roviny současné religiozity české společnosti, a to prostřednictvím induktivního kvalitativního výzkumu. Hlavním cílem je porozumění a přiblížení skutečnosti, jak čeští věřící obývají, konstruují a rekonstruují prostory a místa víry. Původní zaměření týkající se mladých věřících bylo rozšířeno také na kněze, kazatele a starší členy církví. Víceletý výzkum probíhal v Brně, na Přerovsku a Ústecku. Teoretická část se podrobně zabývá geografickými koncepty prostoru a místa, a to především perspektivou vybraných autorů (Relph 1976; Tuan 1977; DeCerteau 1984; Castree 2003; Vávra 2010; Hynek 2011; Siwek 2011 a další), posvátnými místy, geografií imaginace posmrtných prostorů a také diskuzí sekularizace a souvisejících pojmů jako pluralizace a privatizace náboženství nebo koncept duchovního trhu (Bruce 2002; Hervieu-Légerová 2000; Davieová 2002; Bartolini a kol. 2017). Metodická část je založena na induktivním postupu zakotvené teorie podle Strausse a Corbinové. Získaná data jsou představena v analytické části a v diskuzi výsledků, a to prostřednictvím hlavních témat vzešlých z analýzy dat. Jedná se o 1) prostory pravidelných aktivit (ve spojení s vírou), 2) prostory šíření víry, 3) změny v prostorech a místech víry v období tzv. sekularizace, 4) osobní místa související s vírou, 5) posmrtné a další imaginativní prostory víry. Výsledky přinášejí poznání dlouhodobého posunu v postojích věřících, posunu od spíše veřejných prostorů komunitního setkávání k osobním místům za působení specifických sekularizačních tendencí. V rámci zobecnění výsledků lze poukázat na typická místa víry, která jsou současnými, především mladými, věřícími konstruována i přiblížit imaginaci posmrtných prostorů, jak si je představují současní čeští věřící.

Abstract:

The dissertation thesis deals with the geographical aspects of current religiosity of Czech society by way of inductive qualitative research. The main aim is the understanding and approximation of the spaces and places of faith which Czech believers inhabit, construct and reconstruct. The original focus on the young believers was broadened including also priests, preachers and elder members of particular Churches. Long-term research took place in Brno, in Přerov region and Ústí nad Labem region. The theoretical part thoroughly discusses geographical concepts of space and place, mainly by the perspective of selected authors (Relph 1976; Tuan 1977; DeCerteau 1984; Castree 2003; Vávra 2010; Hynek 2011; Siwek 2011 and others), sacred places, imagery of post-mortem spaces and also the secularization and related phenomena, basically the pluralization and privatization of the religion or the concept of the spiritual market (Bruce 2002; Hervieu-Léger 2000; Davie 2002; Bartolini et al. 2017). The methodology is based on the inductive approach of the grounded theory by Strauss and Corbin. The data are presented in the analytical part and in the discussion of the results and ordered following the main themes originated from the research: 1) spaces of regular activities (related to the faith), 2) spaces of the dissemination of the faith, 3) secularization and related spatial shifts, 4) personal places linked with the faith, 5) post mortem spaces imagery. The results document a long-term shift in the attitudes of the believers, the shift from rather public spaces of community gathering to personal places, influenced by specific secularization tendencies. With the aim to generalize the results it is possible to point out typical places of faith which are constructed and reconstructed by current Czech believers (with the main focus on young adherents) and approximate their imagery of the post mortem spaces.
