Financial literacy and debt discharge of elderly people under the terms of Insolvency Act

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na finanční gramotnost seniorů a jejich oddlužení dle insolvenčního zákona. Je rozdělena na dvě části, teoretickou a praktickou. V teoretické části vymezuje klíčové gerontologické pojmy, také pojmy vztahující se k finanční gramotnosti a poukazuje na vzdělávání seniorů jako jeden z důležitých prostředků k prevenci. Pozornost je zaměřena na oddlužení dle insolvenčního zákona a na důvody zadlužování seniorů. Cílem praktické části je zjistit informace o zadlužených a předlužených seniorech, kteří svou situací řeší oddlužením dle insolvenčního zákona anebo toto zvažují. V praktické části jsou aplikovány strategie kvantitativního i kvalitativního výzkumu.

Abstract:

My bachelor´s thesis focuses on the financial literacy of senior citizens and their debt elimination under the Act of Insolvency. The thesis is divided into two parts - theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part there are defined key gerontological terms, there are also mentioned terms which apply to the financial literacy and I also point out to the education of senior citizens as one of the important means of prevention. I concentrate the attention on the debt elimination under the Act of Insolvency and on the reasons of indebtedness of senior citizens. The goal of the practical part is to find out information about the indebted and over-indebted seniors, who decided to solve their situation by debt elimination under the Act of Insolvency or consider this possibility. In the practical part there are used the strategies of the quantitative and qualitative research.
