An Analysis of the Degradation of Absorbable Polyurethane Used in Health Care

Abstract:

Předkládaná práce se zabývá sledování průběhu degradace biodegradabilní polyuretanové folie ve vodných prostředích lišících se hodnotou pH (2,4; 7,4 a 12) při teplotě 37°C. Expe-riment byl prováděn ve dvou různých počátečních stavech a to buď s konstantní deformací, nebo bez ní. Průběh degradace materiálu je popsán pomocí mechanické a mikroskopické analýzy a změn v hodnotách střednách molekulových hmotností. Teoretická část se zabývá použitím vstřebatelných folií ve zdravotnictví, jejich interakcí s biologickým prostředím a mechanizmy degradace v tomto prostředí. Praktická část je soustředěna na přípravu zku-šebních vzorků, sledování samotné degradace v příslušných médiích, vyhodnocení výsled-ků a jejich interpretace. Výsledky ukázaly, že průběh degradace polyurethanu je silně závis-lý jak na hodnotě pH prostředí, tak i na zavedení počáteční konstantní deformace.

Abstract:

The presented work focuses on monitoring of the degradation behaviour of biodegradable polyurethane films in the liquid environments, which differs in pH values (2.4, 7.4 and 12) under temperature 37°C. The degradation experiment was performed with and without applied constant strain. The degradation is described by mechanical and microscopic analy-sis as well as through monitoring the average molecular weights. The theoretical part deals with the use of absorbable film in healthcare, their interactions with the biological environ-ment and mechanisms of degradation in this environment. The practical part is focused on the preparation of test samples, monitoring mechanical and microscopic degradation of respective media, evaluation results and their interpretation. The results showed that the degradation of polyurethane was strongly dependant on the pH value as well as the intro-duction of the initial constant deformation.
