Theme of Nature in the Work of Hannah Arendt

Abstract:

The thesis explores the theme of nature in the work of Hannah Arendt.It presents the concept of an active human life – vita activa – and shows on its background how the human existence is conditioned by the earthly nature. The thesis also analyzes Arendt's idea that the hierarchy within vita activa was overturned with the arrival of the modern age, resulting in radical changes in the human perception of nature and our relationship to it. This thesis closely analyzes two changes. The first one is that work has become the basis of the structure of the human world, and natural cycles of life and the life's philosophy thus penetrated into the human world what poses a threat to its stability. The second change is the acting upon nature, resulting in the physical and mental threat to the world and nature. The thesis seeks to analyze both of these modern phenomena, describe the possible environmental consequences and confront Arendt's idea of acting into nature with current trends based on a specific project, which proves the validity of her thoughts and the relevance of her ideas today.

Abstract:

Predkladaná diplomová práca sa venuje téme prírody v diele Hannah Arendtovej. Predstavuje jej koncepciu ľudského činného života,vita activa, na pozadí ktorej, ukazuje podmienenosť ľudskej existencie pozemskou prírodou. Práca ďalej analyzuje Arendtovej myšlienku, že s príchodom novoveku dochádza k prevráteniu hierarchievo vita activa, čo má za následok radikálne zmeny v ľudskom vnímaní prírody a v našom vzťahu k nej. Práca podrobne sleduje dve zmeny. Prvou je konštrukcia ľudského sveta na základe práce a s tým spojené prenikanie prírodných cyklov a filozofie života do ľudského sveta, čo vedie k ohrozeniu jeho stability.Druhou zmenou je uplatňovanie konania voči prírode,čo má za následok fyzické a myšlienkové ohrozenie sveta a prírody.Práca sa snaží analyzovať oba novodobé fenomény, popísať možné environmentálne následky a konfrontovať Arendtovej myšlienku konania aplikovaného voči prírode so súčasnými trendmi na základe konkrétneho projektu, ktorý ukáže opodstatnenosť jej úvah a aktuálnosť jej myšlienok aj v súčasnosti.
