Green infrastructure in shrinking cities: an international perspective

Abstract:

Tato bakalářské práce se zabývá zelenou infrastrukturou ve smršťujících se městech. Jejím hlavním cílem je analyzovat a zhodnotit přístupy k využití zelené infrastruktury ve Spojených státech amerických a Německu. Na začátku se teoretická část věnuje definování pojmu zelená infrastruktura a popisu jejich environmentálních, sociálních a ekonomických výhod. Dále budou vysvětleny příčiny a nepříznivé dopady smršťování na města, která se následně musejí vypořádat se vznikem a nárůstem volných ploch. Také budou popsány různé podoby veřejné zeleně, která často představuje možné řešení pro tyto nezastavěné pozemky. Následující empirická část je zaměřena na konkrétní příklady využití zelené infrastruktury. Pro empirickou část jsou využity případové studie a programy s důrazem na Lipsko a Philadelphii. Na závěr jsou zhodnoceny přístupy v obou zmíněných městech.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with green infrastructure in shrinking cities. The main goal is to analyse and to evaluate approach to usage of green infrastructure in the United States of America and Germany. At the beginning of the theoretical part the green infrastructure is defined and its environmental, social and economical benefits are described. Then, causes and unfavourable effects on shrinking cities are explained because these cities have to deal with creation and growth vacant lands. Different forms of urban green spaces, which often present possible solutions for these vacant lots, are described. The practical part of the thesis is focused on concrete examples of usage of green infrastructure. For these cases studies and programs with emphasis on Leipzig and Philadelphia are used. At the end approaches in these both cities are evaluated.
