The soviet camp prose from a gender perspective

Abstract:

Magisterská práce „Ruská lágrová próza z genderového hlediska“ se zaměřuje na srovnávání mužské a ženské lágrové literatury z pohledu historického, stylistického a obsahového. Na začátku jsou stručně charakterizovány hlavní události, které zapříčinily vznik Gulagu. Práce popisuje vývoj lágrů a období po oficiálním zrušení Gulagu. Dále se zabývá žánrovým rozdělením sovětské lágrové prózy na odborné studie, encyklopedie a memoáry, které jsou základem mé magisterské práce. Klade si otázku, jaké jsou rozdíly v sovětské lágrové próze mužů a žen, a čím se liší lágrová autobiografická díla z třicátých let od memoárů let sedmdesátých a osmdesátých. Hlavním cílem mé magisterské práce je komparace děl ženských autorek a mužských spisovatelů zejména v obsahové rovině. Pozornost je věnována zejména čtyřem hlavním autorům sovětské lágrové prózy. Období Gulagu je ukázáno v memoárech Alexandra Solženicyna Souostroví Gulag a v díle Strmá cesta od Jevgenii Ginzburg. 80. léta jsou vylíčena v pamětech básnířky Iriny Ratušinské Šedá je barva naděje a v knize Anatolije Marčenka Žij jako všichni. Práce si rovněž všímá toho, jak dílo A. Solženicyna ovlivnilo život v lágrech autorů memoárů postalinovské éry. V závěru práce shrnuje markantní rozdíly ve výběru témat u mužů a žen, ve stylu popisu událostí a v záměrech autorů.

Abstract:

The master´s thesis „The soviet camp prose from a gender perspective“ deals with a comparison of men´s and women´s camp literature from historical, stylistic and thematic points of view. At the beginning, there are briefly described main causes of the genesis of Gulag. The thesis describes developement of prison camps and the period after the official dissolution of Gulag. Further the thesis concentrates on a sorting the camp prose by genre to specialized studies, encyclopedias and memoirs. The thesis asks questions, what are differences between the soviet camp prose of males and of females and what are differences between the autobiographical camp prose from thirties and from seventies/eighties. The main goal of my thesis is comparison of women´s and men´s memoir books in thematic way. The thesis focuses particulary on four main authors of the soviet camp prose. It shows the Gulag period in memoirs of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn – The Gulag Archipelago and in the book by Yevgenia Ginzburg, Within the Whirlwind. Eighties are portrayed on a memoir of poet Irina Ratushinskaya, Grey Is the Color of Hope, and on the book by Anatoly Marchenko, To Live Like Everyone. The thesis describes, that books of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn had quite an influence to a life in a prison camps of authors from the post-Stalin era. In the end my thesis summarizes differences between male and female writing styles and choises of topics.
