Stylistic Aspects of Nonverbal Communication in tabloid journalism

Abstract:

Disertační práce se zabývá výrazovými neverbálními prostředky v psaných komunikátech bulvární sportovní žurnalistiky a věnuje se jejich vybraným stylovým aspektům. Cílem práce je popsat, kategorizovat a analyzovat neverbální prostředky, identifikovat jejich vlastnosti, zákonitosti a vzájemné souvislosti, které mohou mít pro danou stylovou oblast normativní charakter. Analýza je provedena na materiálu čítajícího 1900 dokladů z českých bulvárních deníků Aha! a Blesk. Práce také přispívá k poznání sekundárního stylu bulvární komunikace a zároveň k úvahám nad vybranými stylovými vlastnostmi neverbálních prostředků, které se v dané sféře podílejí na formování stylu.

Abstract:

This PhD thesis deals with the stylistic aspects of nonverbal meanings in written texts of the sport tabloid press. The aim of this work is to describe, categorize and analyze nonverbal meanings, identify their properties, principles, and correlations which have a normative character in the researched area. The analysis is performed on 1900 articles extracted from the Czech tabloid daily newspapers Aha! and Blesk. The thesis also contributes to the definition of the secondary style of tabloid communication and, at the same time, it contributes to the reflection on the selected stylistics aspects which form tabloid communication style.
