Conditioning skills of Spartan Race athletes

Abstract:

Extrémní překážkové běhy neboli OCR (obstacle course racing) jsou závody jako Spartan Race, Predator Race, Rugged Warrior, Tough Mudder, Gladiator Race a mnoho dalších. Tento sport je multifunkční, není rozhodující a hlavní pouze běh, ale také překážky na trati. Překážky a běh v těžkém terénu mezi nimi vyžaduje určité kondiční schopnosti. Bakalářská práce se zabývá kondičními schopnostmi elitních a hobby Spartan Race závodníků. Pomocí testové baterie Unifittest 6-60 se provedlo měření a porovnání mezi těmito skupinami. Pět mužů a tři ženy z elitní kategorie, pět mužů a tři ženy z hobby kategorie absolvovali test na 12 minut běhu, skok z místa snožmo, sed-lehy a shyby (ženy výdrž ve shybu). Výsledky byly porovnány a vyhodnoceny pomocí norem testové baterie. Ukázalo se že motorický výkonnost a tělesná zdatnost z obou souborů se v hodnotícím systému Unifittestu 6-60 potvrdila jako nadprůměrná až vysoce nadprůměrná. Výsledky byly také porovnány podle věcné významnosti rozdílů průměrů pomocí "Effect of Size". U mužů obou elitní a hobby kategorie byl z testu T1 a T4 malý efekt, T2 a T3 vyšel se středním efektem. Ženy měli z testu T1, T2 a T4 zanedbatelný efekt a u testu T3 malý efekt.

Abstract:

Extreme obstacle course racing or OCR (obstacle course racing) are races like Spartan Race, Predator Race, Rugged Warrior, Tough Mudder, Gladiator Race and many more. This sport is multi-faceted, it is not only the running that is crucial and the main thing, but also the obstacles on the course. Obstacles and running on difficult terrain in between requires some fitness. This bachelor thesis deals with the fitness abilities of elite and hobby Spartan Race competitors. Using the Unifittest 6-60 test battery, measurements and comparisons were made between these groups. Five males and three females from the elite category, and five males and three females from the hobby category completed the 12-minute run, sit-jump, sit-ups and hunches (female endurance in the hunch) test. The results were compared and evaluated using the standards of the test battery. Motor performance and physical fitness from both sets were confirmed as above average to highly above average in the Unifittest 6-60 rating system. The results were also compared by the substantive significance of differences in means using the "Effect of Size". For males in both the elite and hobby categories, T1 and T4 came out with a small effect size, while T2 and T3 came out with a medium effect size. Females had a negligible effect from the T1, T2 and T4 test and a small effect from the T3 test.
