Conservation of the helmet coming from the Morkovsky of Zástřizly crypt

Abstract:

The diploma thesis is focused on the conservation of the iron artefact found in May 2008 in the forgotten crypt of the family Moskovský of Zástřízl in the Church of Saint. Jacob in Boskovice. During the reconstruction of the floor a tomb with the relics of seven members of the Zastžízl family were found together with a battalion and a helmet. The helmet was preserved without the front side and the farepieces. In the corosion all over the surface of the helmet there were some fragments of velvet retained. The preserved metal core is also documented thanks to the x-ray images. The surface contains several different corrosive products with the depth between a few milimitres to one centimeter. The velvet was fully preserved in all three fragments. We were able to remove one of them, the other two are the subject of conservation on surface of the helmet by using the hermetical systém. This systém enables the desalination of the helmet by leaving the textile´s fragments in the original places. The analysis of the corrosive products by using the x-ray difraction, LIBS, and IČ spectroscopy describes the physiognomy of the corrosion. The conservation took place at the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science of the Masaryk University with the cooperation of the Technical Museum in Brno.

Diplomová práca pojednáva o konzervovaní železného artefaktu objaveného v máji 2008 v zabudnutej krypte rodu Morkovských zo Zástřizl v boskovickom kostele sv.Jakuba.Pri rekonštrukcii podlahy bola odhalená hrobka s pozostatkami siedmich členov rodiny Zástřizlov, rodovým práporom a prilbou.Prilba sa zachovala bez čelnej strany a lícnic.V korózii po celom povrchu prilby sa zachovali fragmenty sametu.Zachované kovové jadro dokumentujú aj RTG snímky.Povrch obsahuje rôzne korózne produkty s hrúbkou od niekolko mm až do 1cm.Samet sa zachoval kompletný v troch fragmentoch.Jeden bolo možné odobrať, ostatné dva sú predmetom konzervácie na povrchu prilby pomocou ochranného hermetického systému. Tento systém umožnuje desalináciu prilby s ponechaním fragmentov textilu na pôvodných miestach.Analýza koróznych produktov RTG difrakciou, LIBS, a IČ spektroskopiou popisuje povahu korózie. Konzervácia prebehla na Ústave chémie PřF MU v spolupráci s Technickým múzeom v Brne.
