Biological degradation of organic dyes

Abstract:

Organic dyes are one of the most used industrial chemicals. The number of instances during which the dyes contaminate the environment is rising. During the process of removing the dyes from the environment, ecotoxicological analysis plays a crucial role. The physical-chemical processes being used so-far are often inefficient and incapable of removing certain organic dyes at all; therefore the research of organisms that are capable of the decolorization or degradation of dyes is taking a lead. This thesis reviews current research and literature on 1. the possibilities of the transformation of dyes by various microorganisms; and 2. comercially used remediation and bioremediation techniques.

Abstract:

Organická barviva patří k nejpoužívanějším chemikáliím v průmyslu. Stoupá počet případů, kdy je jimi znečištěno životní prostředí. Při odstraňování těchto barviv je důležitá jejich ekotoxikologická analýza. Dodnes používané fyzikálně-chemické metody jsou často neúčinné a některá organická barviva není možné s jejich pomocí vůbec odstranit. Do popředí se proto dostává výzkum dekolorizujících organismů, degradujících tyto barviva. Cílem této práce je podat přehled o dosavadních možnostech transformace různými organismy a komerčně využívaných v remediačních a bioremediačních technikách.
