Spiritual Work of the sculptors of the SVU Mánes

Abstract:

Účelem diplomové práce je zmapování duchovní sochařské tvorby v S.V.U. Mánes. Zohledněni jsou sochaři, kteří ve spolku působili okolo roku 1900. U celkem deseti sochařů bylo cílem částečně načrtnout jejich biografické údaje a vybrat příklady duchovní tvorby. Byly vytyčeny tři možné směry, jimiž se tito sochaři mohou vydat. Prvním směrem je art moyen, reprezentující střední proud umělecké produkce, tvořící v duchu myslbekovské tradice či starších stylových vrstev. Zástupci druhé skupiny jsou poučeni Myslbekem, avšak reflektují ve své tvorbě dílo Augusta Rodina, Antoine Bourdelleho a Aristide Maillola. Posledním směrem je pak skupina individualistických sochařů, vytvářejících díla bez větších paralel. Předpokládá se, že první kategorie art moyen by měla vzhledem k obecné konzervativnosti duchovní tvorby převládat.

Abstract:

The purpose of the thesis is to find and analyse the spiritual sculpture of Mánes Union of Fine Arts. The focus is on the artists who were part of this group around the 1900s. An attempt is made to create partial biographies of ten artists and select samples of their spiritual artwork. There are three possible directions which were likely to be pursued by these artists. The first direction is art moyen representing the mainstream of artistic production in the spirit of the work of Josef Václav Myslbek or older styles. The representatives of the second group are influenced by Myslbek, but they reflect new artistic approaches of Auguste Rodin, Antoine Bourdelle, and Aristide Maillol. The last is a group of individualistic sculptors who were creating unique artwork. It is expected that the first category of art moyen should prevail due to the conservative nature of sacred art.
