The Use of Principles of Wilderness Therapy in Work with Homeless People

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce přibližuje fenomén bezdomovectví a poukazuje na možnosti využití terapie divočinou při práci s lidmi bez domova. V práci je zprostředkován v českém prostředí dosud nepublikovaný pohled na potenciální přínos této terapie pro osoby bez domova. Cílem práce je analyzovat reálný přínos tohoto přístupu pro klienty, kteří absolvují putovaní založené na principech terapie divočinou. V rámci kvalitativního výzkumu byla využita metoda zakotvené teorie. Z výzkumu plyne zásadní pozitivní zjištění - absolvovaná akce přispěla u klientů ke snížení stresu, což je důležitý aspekt zkvalitnění lidského života. U některých klientů se také podařilo podpořit určité sociální dovednosti a posílit sebevědomí. Z výzkumu také plyne řada praktických doporučení pro pořádání obdobných akcí a práce tak slouží jako příklad dobré praxe pro další využití v sociální práci s lidmi bez domova.

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis describes the phenomenon of homelessness and points out the possibilities of using wilderness therapy when working with homeless people. The work provides an yet unpublished view of the potential benefits of this therapy for the homeless people in the Czech environment. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the real benefits of this approach for clients who experienxe wandering based on the principles of wilderness therapy. The method of grounded theory was used in the qualitative research. The research shows a fundamental positive finding - the completion of this event contributed to the reduction of stress in clients, which is an important aspect of improving human life. Some clients also managed to promote certain social skills and their self-confidence was boosted. The research also provides a number of practical recommendations for organizing similar events, and the thesis thus serves as an example of good practice for further use in social work with homeless people.
