Social Aspects of Digital Libraries

Abstract:

Digitální knihovny mohou mít mnoho různých aspektů, technické, etické, environmentální a také sociální. Ve své magisterské práci zkoumám to, jak se posunul pohled na digitální knihovny od čistě technologického na počátku jejich vývoje k sociotechnickému. V dalších kapitolách se zabývám tím, jak jsou dnes digitální knihovny vnímány, k jaké dochází interakci mezi nimi a jejich uživateli a které vědy toto zkoumají. Hlavním tématem je popis sociálních aspektů, jako jsou použitelnost, užitečnost, hranice a informační ekologie a také způsoby jejich hodnocení. Na základě analýzy výzkumů jsou pak formulována doporučení pro praxi digitálních knihoven, vhodné pro jejich tvůrce i uživatele.

Abstract:

There are many aspects around digital libraries, e.g. technological, ethical, ecological and social. I examine the evolution of view on digital libraries from the technological perspective in the beginning to the socio-technical perspective now. I overview the perception of digital libraries, the interaction between users and the digital collection and theories that are describing it. The main part of this thesis is about social aspects as usability, usefulness, boundaries and information ecology and its evaluation. I define recommendations for praxis of creating and using digital libraries according to the analysis of researches conducted in this area.
