Autobiographic comics: Epileptic by David B.

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá problematikou autobiografického komiksu. Je koncipována ze dvou částí, úvodní teoretická část vymezuje, co je to komiks a jaká jsou specifika autobiografického komiksu. Stěžejní část práce je zaměřena na interpretaci autobiografického komiksu Padoucnice Davida B., který vycházel v druhé polovině devadesátých let ve Francii. Autor komiksu na případu vlastní rodiny ukazuje, jaký vliv může mít nemoc jedince – v tomto případě epilepsie autorova bratra – na okolní společenství. Kromě interpretace témat spojených s nemocí sledujeme utváření vlastní identity a jak sny a představivost ovlivňují autorův život a jeho uměleckou tvorbu.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the topic of autographical comics. It consists of two parts –theoretical chapters define what comics is and the specifics of autobiographical comics. Main part of thesis aims to interpret autographical comics Epileptic by David B., which was published in second part of 1990’s in France. Author of the comics shows the influence of illness on both the ill person and his relatives; he does this with the example of his own family as his brother suffers from epilepsy. Apart from interpretation of themes connected with illness, we can observe the formation of authors own self and how his dreams and imagination influence both his life and his artistic creations.
