Attitude of students of MU towards the issue of university tuition fees (empirical research)

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou zavedení školného na veřejných vysokých školách. Nejprve je vymezena legislativní úprava vysokých škol včetně návrhů na zavedení školného a představeny názory jednotlivých zainteresovaných subjektů na školné. Poté jsou diskutovány důvody pro a proti zavedení školného, popsány modely školného a také možnosti finanční pomoci studentům. Je zde také uveden přehled školného a poplatků v evropských zemích včetně poplatků, které se týkají studentů Masarykovy univerzity. V rámci diplomové práce byl za účelem zjištění, zda se liší postoje ke školnému dle studované fakulty a dalších socio-ekonomických charakteristik studentů, uskutečněn empirický výzkum prostřednictvím dotazníkového šetření. Konkrétně byli vybráni studenti Ekonomicko-správní a Pedagogické fakulty. V závěru práce jsou pak prezentovány výsledky kvantitativního výzkumu.

Abstract:

The thesis is exploring the problem of instituting tuition fees at public universities. First, I define the universities’ legislative adjustment including propositions of instituting tuition fees, and I also introduce opinions of interested subjects about tuition fees. Then, I discuss the pros and cons of instituting tuition fees, and describe templates of tuition fees and options of financial aid for students. Here, I have also inserted a summary of tuition fees and additional fees in European countries including fees for students at Masaryk University. To examine the thesis of my dissertation work, which questions if different opinions on instituting tuition fees are determined by the faculty, which the student attends, or by socio-economic characteristic of the student, I used a questionnaire research method. I specifically chose students from the faculty of Economy and Pedagogy. Finally, at the end of the thesis I present results of the quantitative research.
