Interactions between parasitoids and ambrosia gall midges

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá studiem tetratrofního vztahu mezi hálkotvorným organismem, hostitelskou rostlinou, symbiotickou houbou a parazitoidem, kde každý z jedinců hraje důležitou roli v komplexním vztahu napříč biologickými říšemi. Rešeršní část práce se zaměřuje na interakce bejlomorek s hostitelskou rostlinou a význam symbiotických mikroorganismů u ambroziových bejlomorek (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae). Podstatná část rešerše shrnuje dosavadní znalosti o vztazích ambroziových bejlomorek s parazitoidy, které dosud nebyly příliš studovány, především o míře parazitace, taxonomickém složení parazitoidů a hostitelské specializaci. Experimentální část práce obsahuje výsledky terénního sběru hálek druhu Asphondylia sarothamni (Loew 1850) z hostitelských rostlin janovce metlatého (Sarothamnus scoparius) z různých geografických oblastí Moravskoslezského kraje a následných laboratorních odchovů, při kterých se pomocí DNA barcodingu podařilo identifikovat pět druhů asociovaných parazitoidů s celkovou mírou parazitace 21,7 %.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis focuses on tetratrophic interaction between a gall-inducing organism, host plant, symbiotic fungus and parasitoid, where everyone of the individuals plays significant role in the complex cross-kingdom relationship. The review part of the thesis is focused on the interaction of gall midge with host plant and the importance of symbiotic microorganisms in ambrosia gall midges (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae). A major part summarizes the knowledge about interactions of ambrosia gall midges with parasitoids, which have not been studied well yet, especially the parasitism rate, parasitoid taxonomic composition and host specialization. The experimental part of this thesis comprises the results of field sampling and laboratory rearing of galls of Asphondylia sarothamni (Loew 1850) from the host plants of Scotch broom (Sarothamnus scoparius) from different geographical locations of Moravian-Silesian Region. In total, five species of associated parasitoids with an overall parasitism rate of 21.7% were identified using DNA barcoding.
