Richard Dawkins as the Representative of the New Atheism

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá novým ateismem a jeho hlavním představitelem Richardem Dawkinsem. Nejprve budu rozebírat, jakou má náboženství úlohu ve Spojených státech amerických od dob jejich vzniku po současnost, jak se v průběhu času projevoval ateismus a jak se z něj stal nový ateismus. Na pár příkladech představím polemiku mezi přírodními vědami a kreacionismem, která se objevila po zveřejnění Darwinovy evoluce a která trvá dodnes. V další části podrobněji analyzuji stěžejní knihu pro nový ateismu Boží blud od Richarda Dawkinse a v poslední kapitole se zaměřím také na další knihy předních zastánců nového ateismu Christophera Hitchense a Sama Harrise. Oblast zkoumání je zaměřena na Spojené státy americké.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the new atheism and its main representative Richard Dawkins. First, I discuss what role the religion in the United States has since its inception to the present, how atheism has manifested over the time and how it has become the new atheism. I present the contorversy between natural sciences and creationism which appeared after publishing Darwins's evolution theory and which has continued sice then. The next part analyses the main book of the new atheism The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins in detail. The last chapter describes other books of the leading proponents of the new atheism Christopher Hitchens and Sam Harris. The area of research is focesed on the United States.
