Consumer protection in the field of food labelling

Abstract:

Ochrana spotřebitele má napomáhat, aby spotřebitelé snáze uplatňovali svá práva. Součástí této politiky je také oblast označování potravin, které má spotřebitelům sloužit jako základní zdroj informací o potravinách. Tato práce pojednává o ochraně spotřebitele, potravinové legislativě na mezinárodní, evropské a národní úrovni a o chystaných změnách v této oblasti. Ty zavede v roce 2014 nařízení (EU) č. 1169/2011 o poskytování informací o potravinách spotřebitelům, které sjednocuje předpisy týkajících se obecného označování a označování výživových hodnot potravin. Tato práce zhodnocuje hlavní změny, které s sebou toto nařízení přináší. Praktická část si poté klade za cíl zjistit, jak spotřebitelům vyhovuje současné označování potravin a jaká je tedy skutečná potřeba změn ve stávající potravinářské legislativě z pohledu spotřebitelů.

Abstract:

Consumer protection should help consumers to exercise their rights more easily. Part of this policy concerns food labelling, which represents the core source of information about food. This thesis deals with consumer protection, food legislation on international, european and national level as well as with changes being prepared in this field. These are going to be implemented in 2014 through regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 on the provision of food information to consumers, which will integrate regulations related to general labeling and indicating of nutrition information of food. The thesis evaluates main changes that this regulation will bring. The goal of the practical part is to find out how consumers are satisfied with current food labeling and whether these changes in the current food legislation are actually necessarily needed from consumers' point of view.
