The conservative and post-operative physiotherapy protocol for a patient suffering from rhizoarthrosis: a clinical case

Abstract:

The use of hands is a feature that distinguishes us as human beings and it play a major role in humans activities since millions of years. Now, more than ever, it's required a highly precise use of the hand, an usage that could become repetitive and detrimental for certain structures. Starting from anatomy and kinesiology, we will see how the trapezio-metacarpal joint of the first finger is a wide- spread condition which has a very high impact on the quality of life. Rhizoarthritis, or arthrosis of the carpometacarpal of the first finger, is a widespread pathology that has a great impact on the quality of life. As we will see, the etiopathogenesis is extremely variegated and requires a multidisciplinary treatment and, concearning the rehabilitative treatment, differentiated in conservative treatment and post- surgical treatment. I have chosen the clinical case of a patient who in the past had performed physiotherapy with a conservative approach, but due to passage of time and her pathology she had to undergo a surgery. After a rapid review of the main pillars of the conservative rehabilitation treatment, we will analyze more deeply the principals on which is based the post- surgical rehabilitation treatment of this pathology.

L'utilizzo della mano contraddistingue l'essere umano e da milioni di anni possiede un ruolo centrale nelle attivit? umane. Oggi pi? che mai ? richiesto un ruolo di precisione nell'utilizzo della mano, un utilizzo che a tratti pu? diventare ripetitivo e usurante per alcune strutture. Partendo dall'anatomia e dalla chinesiologia vedremo come mai l'articolazione pi? a rischio ? l'articolazione trapezio- metacarpale. La rizo-artrosi, o artrosi dell'articolazione carpo- metacarpale del primo dito, ? una patologia diffusa e molto impattante sulla qualit? di vita. L'eziopatogenesi ? variegata e comporta un trattamento multidisciplinare e, per quello che concerne il trattamento riabilitativo, differenziato in trattamento conservativo e trattamento post chirurgico. Ho scelto il caso clinico di una paziente che in passato aveva eseguito fisioterapia con un approccio conservativo, ma che con l'avanzare del tempo e della patologia ha dovuto sottoporsi ad intervento chirurgico. Dopo aver rapidamente passato in rassegna i principi su cui si basa il trattamento riabilitativo conservativo, analizzeremo pi? approfonditamente i principi su cui si basa il trattamento riabilitativo post chirurgico di questa patologia.
