Use of occupational therapy as prevention in carpal tunnel syndrome

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is focused on the issue of carpal tunnel syndrome, which is a common disease. This syndrome occurs by compression of the median nerve compressed in a narrow space called the carpal tunnel. I describe its origin, anatomy and clinical picture in my theoretical part. In the part of rehabilitation I deal with individual possibilities of complex rehabilitation in the field of occupational therapy and its prevention. My bachelor thesis contains one case report in occupational therapy for carpal tunnel syndrome, which includes occupational therapy examination, therapy plan, course of possible methods used in occupational therapy, goal of therapy, final examination and evaluation of therapy. The aim of my bachelor thesis was to produce an information and help booklet for patients with carpal tunnel syndrome. The content of the brochure is a lay introduction to the issue of carpal tunnel syndrome, swelling prevention, occupational prevention and relevant exercises. The brochure is attached in the appendices.

Abstract:

Táto bakalárska práca je zameraná na problematiku syndrómu karpálneho tunela, ktorá je často vyskytujúce sa ochorenie. Tento syndróm nastáva útlakom nervus medianus stlačený v úzkom priestore nazývaný karpálny tunel. Jeho vznik, anatómiu a klinický obraz popisujem v svojej teoretickej časti. V časti rehabilitácia sa venujem jednotlivým možnostiam komplexnej rehabilitácie v oboru ergoterapie a jeho prevencii. Moja bakalárska práca obsahuje jednu kazuistiku v rámci ergoterapie u syndrómu karpálneho tunelu, v ktorej je zahrnuté ergoterapeutické vyšetrenie, plán terapie, priebeh možných metód využívaných v ergoterapii, cieľ terapie, záverečné vyšetrenie a zhodnotenie terapii. Cieľom spracovania mojej bakalárskej práce bolo, zhotovenie informačnej a pomocnej brožúry pre pacientov so syndrómom karpálneho tunelu. Obsahom brožúry je laický úvod do problematiky syndrómu karpálneho tunelu, prevencia opuchu, pracovná prevencia a príslušné cvičenia. Brožúra je priložená v prílohách.
