Abstract:

Anotace Tato diplomová práce pojednává o vybrané fikci tří postmoderních feministických spisovatelek. Konkrétně se jedná o Angelu Carterovou (Nights at the Circus a The Passion of New Eve), Fay Weldonovou (Down among the Women, The Lives and Loves of a She-Devil a “Weekend”) a Jeanette Wintersonovou (Sexing the Cherry a The Passion). V různých kapitolách jsem se snažila dokázat, že transgrese normativních hranic je typická pro ženská monstra vybraných románů a jedné povídky. Po popsání tradice monstrózní ženskosti v literatuře mnoha staletí, jsem se posunula k popsání děje vybrané fikce, abych se s nimi lépe seznámila. Protikladem monstrózní ženy je anděl, který představuje ctnosti dámy, konkrétně pasivitu, krásu a plachost. Monstrum je naproti tomu aktivní a dokonce agresivní, škaredé, odvážné a sobecké. Andělé jsou skutečně ženské bytosti v protikladu k monstrům, která jsou svým způsobem mužská, protože jsou aktivní ve všem, co dělají. Transgrese normativních hranic, jak už jsem uvedla výše, je typická pro monstrózní ženy, a to mnoha způsoby. Jedním z nich je jejich výška a váha, která je dosti velká a groteskní. Jiný způsob transgrese je pociťován u sexuality monstrózních žen. Monstra jsou transgresivní a někdy hrozivá, když se jedná o jejich ženskost a sexualitu. Další způsob překročení hranic, tentokrát těch tělesných, může být pozorován při těhotenstvích a mateřství monstrózních žen. Konečnou část práce tvoří kapitola o feministické otázce, která je, jak jsem se snažila dokázat, ústřední pro fikci Angely Carterové, Fay Weldonové a Jeanette Wintersonové.

Abstract:

Annotation The thesis deals with selected fiction of three postmodern, feminist writers. They are in particular Angela Carter (Nights at the Circus and The Passion of New Eve), Fay Weldon (Down among the Women, The Lives and Loves of a She-Devil and “Weekend”) and Jeanette Winterson (Sexing the Cherry and The Passion). In different chapters, I have tried to prove that transgression of normative borders is typical of the she-monsters of the chosen novels and one short story. After the description of the tradition of monstrous femininity in literature through many centuries, I moved on to describe the plots of the selected fiction so as to get a better grasp of them. The opposite of the she-monster is an angel who stands for ladylike virtues of passivity, beauty and timidity. The monster, on the contrary, is active and even aggressive, ugly, courageous and selfish. The angels are truly feminine as opposed to the monsters who are viewed as masculine in a way as they are more active in everything they do. Transgression of normative boundaries, as I have stated above, is typical of the monster women in various ways. One of them is their size and weight which is rather large and grotesque. Another kind of transgression is felt when coping with sexuality of the she-monsters. They are transgressive and sometimes threatening with a respect to their femininity and sexuality. Another case of trespassing of the boundaries, this time bodily, might be seen with a regard to the pregnancies and motherhood of the monstrous women. The final part of the thesis is formed by the chapter on feminist issues which, as I have tried to prove, was what Carter, Weldon and Winterson had in mind when writing their fiction.
