Management of phantom limb syndrome in a patient with amputation of the lower limb due to chronic obstructive arteriopathy: case report

Abstract:

In this work I'm going to treat the rehabilitation in an amputee patient of the lower limb due to chronic peripheral obstructive artery disease. At first I'm going to treat and describe the anatomy of the lower limb, the ligaments and muscles of the coxo-femoral joint, its physiology and its biomechanics. Then I'm going to describe the pathology of chronic peripheral obstructive artery disease, with its symptoms, its causes, its risk factors, its physiopathology and its different stages. Next, I'm going to explain what phantom limb syndrome is, its causes and its consequences, like for example the amputation of the lower limb, as it happens and its history, the prostheses that are used and the conditions to be able to insert them. Finally, I'm going to discuss the clinical case of G., a patient undergoing amputation of the lower limb following chronic peripheral obstructive artery disease, to which a rehabilitative protocol be going to apply with the goal of recovering as much autonomy as possible, of the motor functions and muscle tone, with a specific treatment of the scar caused by the operation to which it was subjected and by using of mirror therapy .

Abstract:

In questo lavoro si andr? a trattare la riabilitazione di un paziente amputato dell'arto inferiore a causa dell'arteriopatia ostruttiva cronica periferica. All'inizio si tratter? e si descriver? l'anatomia dell'arto inferiore, i legamenti e i muscoli dell'articolazione coxo-femorale, la sua fisiologia e la sua biomeccanica. In seguito verr? descritta la patologia dell'arteriopatia ostruttiva cronica periferica, con i suoi sintomi, le sue cause, i suoi fattori di rischio, la sua fisiopatologia e i diversi suoi stadi. Successivamente verr? illustrato che cos'? la sindrome dell'arto fantasma, le sue cause e le sue conseguenze, come ad esempio l'amputazione dell'arto inferiore, come avviene e la sua storia, le protesi che vengono usate e le condizioni per poterle inserire. Infine si discuter? del caso clinico di G., paziente sottoposto ad amputazione dell'arto inferiore in seguito ad arteriopatia ostruttiva cronica periferica, a cui verr? applicato un protocollo riabilitativo con l'obiettivo del recupero della massima autonomia possibile, delle funzioni motorie e del tono muscolare, con un trattamento specifico della cicatrice causata dall'operazione a cui ? stato sottoposto e mediante l'utilizzo della mirror therapy
