Post-Communist Left in Central-East Europe - comparison of three countries

Abstract:

Tématem této bakalářské práce je porovnat postkomunistické levicové strany ve třech vybraných zemích středovýchodní Evropy (Česká republika, Slovensko a Spolková republika Německo). Všechny zmíněné státy byly do roku 1989 pod sférou vlivu Sovětského svazu a v každém z těchto států existovala hegemonní strana, která byla řízena z Moskvy. Koncem 80. let byl v těchto zemích zahájen proces demokratizace a bývalé vládnoucí strany byly nuceny vzdát se svého hegemonního postavení a etablovat se v nových podmínkách pluralitní demokracie. Cílem práce je zjistit, zda v těchto státech proběhla úspěšná transformace postkomunistických levicových stran ve strany sociálnědemokratické či nikoli. Ve vybraných zemích jsem se zabýval stranickým vedením, politickými programy a volebními výsledky stran. Ve své práci jsem došel k závěru, že SDĽ (Slovensko) a PDS (Spolková republika Německo) se dokázaly stát stranami sociálně demokratického typu, naopak KSČM (Česká republika) se transformovat nedokázala.

Abstract:

The topic of this bachelor thesis is to compare the post-communist leftwing in three chosen countries in East-Central Europe (Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany). All of these countries were to 1989 heavily influenced by the Soviet Union and in each country was one hegemonic party controlled from Moscow. At the end of the 80s was in these countries started the process of democratization and the former ruling party were forced to give up its hegemonic position and settle in the new conditions of pluralistic democracy. The goal of this work was to find out if these parties were able to transform in the social democratic parties. In the thesis was researched personnel management and program of the parties and also their elections results. In my thesis, I came to the conclusion that SDĽ (Slovakia) and PDS (Germany) managed to become a party of social democratic type, while the KSČM (Czech Republic) has failed to transform.
