Construction of the meaning of psychospiritual crisis

Abstract:

Kvalitativní studie se zabývá procesem konstrukce významu zkušenosti s psychospirituální krizí. Úvodní kapitoly nabízejí definici psychospirituální krize, následně kritické zamyšlení nad vztahem psychospirituální krize a transpersonální či klinickou psychologií. K zodpovězení výzkumné otázky (jakým způsobem se konstruuje význam zkušenosti s psychospirituální krizí?) využívá práce metodu zakotvené teorie. Prostřednictvím polostrukturovaných rozhovorů byly provedeny rozhovory s celkem třináct respondenty (sedmi muži a šesti ženami), data byla přepsána a analyzována v programu ATLAS.ti. Předkládaná zjištění představují dva konkrétní způsoby integrace zážitku přesahujícího běžné vědomí ve vztahu k vlastní osobnosti – vedle možnosti potlačit symptomy, jejich následné interpretace a návratu k běžně sdílenému pohledu na realitu je diskutována také možnost proces podpořit, zkušenost interpretovat a vytvořit si nový pohled na realitu. Zohledněna je rovněž role zprostředkujících diskursů, medicínského a transpersonálního, z jejichž pohledu je o výsledcích uvažováno v diskusi. Praktickými implikacemi studie je zejména příhodnější a empatičtější využití intervenčních technik v praxi.

Abstract:

This qualitative study examines the process of meaning creation in psychospiritual crisis experience. Introductory chapters offer a definition of psychospiritual crisis, followed by critical reflection on the relation of psychospiritual crisis and transpersonal and clinical psychology. The research question (how is the construction of meaning of psychospirital crisis happening?) is answered with method of grounded theory. Altogether 13 respondents (seven men and six women) were interviewed using semistructured interview, the data were rewritten and analyzed in the program ATLAS.ti. The presented findings show two specific ways of integration of an experience exceeding ordinary states of consciousness in relation to own personality. First, the possibility to suppress symptoms, their subsequent interpretation and return to commonly shared view of reality is discussed as well as the possibility to support the process, interpret the experience and create a new view on reality. The role of mediating discourses, like medical and transpersonal, is taken into account and further discussed in the discussion part. Practical implication of the study is predominantly more felicitous and emphatic use of intervention techniques in practice.
