Locus of control and self-assessment on the long-term unemployed.

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá dlouhodobou nezaměstnaností ve vztahu k sebehodnocení a místu kontroly. Výzkumným problémem bylo zjistit, zda má nezaměstnanost vliv na sebehodnocení a místo kontroly jedince, a prozkoumat vliv dalších proměnných: pohlaví, věku, délky nezaměstnanosti a vzdělání. Také jsme hledali souvislost sebehodnocení a nezaměstnanosti s místem kontroly. Hypotézy byly stanoveny na základě výsledků dřívějších výzkumů, nebo byly vyvozeny z poznatků v teoretické části práce. Dotazníkové šetření bylo provedeno na vzorku 133 respondentů, z toho bylo 71 dlouhodobě nezaměstnaných a 62 zaměstnaných. Pro sběr dat jsme použili záměrný výběr. K měření místa kontroly byla využita I-E škála Juliana Rottera a k zjištění míry sebehodnocení Rosenbergova škála sebehodnocení. Pro testování hypotéz jsme použili neparametrické metody, z důvodu nesplnění podmínky normálního rozdělení pravděpodobnosti dat u proměnných HS RSES a HS I-E. Testy ukázaly signifikantně významné výsledky ve dvou případech. Potvrdil se předpoklad, že s rostoucím věkem klesá sebehodnocení u dlouhodobě nezaměstnaných a taky předpoklad rozdílu místa kontroly. Zaměstnaní jedninci mají spíše vnitřní místo kontroly, kdežto dlouhodobě nezaměstnaní ho mají spíše vnější.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with long-term unemployment in relation to self-assessment and locus of control. Research task was to find out whether unemployment affects self-esteem and the locus of control of an individual. The thesis should investigate the influence of following variables: gender, age, length of unemployment and education. We have investigated the relationship between self-esteem and unemployment and the locus of control among the unemployed. Hypotheses were stated based on previous research or were stated with respect to the knowledge gained in theoretical part of the thesis. The survey was performed by a questionnaire on a sample of 133 respondents 71 of them were long-term unemployed and 62 were employed. Data wetre acquired using purposive sampling method. A meassure of locus of control was determined using the I-E scale of Julian Rotter. Rosenberg's self-assessment scale (RSES) was used to measure self-assessment. Nonparametric methods were applied on hypotheses testing due to requirements on normal distribution of scores (HS RSES and HS I-E) were not met. Significant results were achieved in two cases. The first case shows, when getting older the self-assessment decreased. The other hypothesis confirmation was the assumption, that the position of locus of control differs between employed and unemployed. The long-term unemployed ones have outer locus of control while the inner locus of control showing up for employed.
