The Picture of the Czech Communist Past in the Czech Cinematography of the 1990s

Anotácia:

Cílem této práce je popsat zobrazení české komunistické minulosti (1950-1989) v české kinematografii 90. let 20. století. Práce obsahuje rozdělení relevantních filmů do období, ve kterém se odehrávají (50. léta, 60.léta, 70.léta, 80. léta). Kritéria výběru popisovaných filmů jsou dána tím jak se na těchto konkrétních dílech patrné celkové tendence české kinematografie 90. let. V práci se snažím kriticky zhodnotit samotné filmy, prameny k tématu, osobní názory tvůrců a recenzentů. Upřednostňuji svůj názor na téma, který se řídí vyvozenými fakty z pramenů a hlavně osobní diváckou zkušeností s těmito filmy. Za hlavní přínos své práce považuji otevření a pojmenování tohoto problému, který je zatím dle mého názoru značně opomíjen, přestože téma v sobě nese důležité odpovědi i reflexe, které jsou zásadní pro celou naši společnost. Při svém zkoumání jsem zjistil, že český film 90. let celkově podléhal diktátu komerce a trhu. Autorské filmy byly zatlačeny do pozadí. Pro tvůrce byl nejdůležitější divácký úspěch a tomu dokázali podřídit i umělecké ambice svých projektů. Společnou tendencí byl také humorný pohled na zobrazovanou minulost. Komedie a tragikomedie týkající se období 1950-1989 mají nejvíce diváků a získávají i mezinárodní ocenění (viz Kolja /1996/ - Oscar).

Abstract:

The objective of this work is to describe the way the Czech communist past (1950-1989) is depicted in the Czech cinematography in the 1990s. The work contains a division of the relevant films by periods in which they are set (1950s, 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s). The criteria of selecting the films to be dealt with are based on how the overall trends of the Czech cinematography of the 1990s are discernible in the concrete films. In the work I have tried to critically analyze the films themselves, some sources, personal opinions of their creators and their reviewers. I give preference to my own opinion on the subject, based on the facts deduced from the sources and, in the first place, on my personal experience with these films as a viewer. The main contribution of my work consists in addressing and drawing attention to the problem, which in my opinion has been so far neglected although the subject could result in responses and reflections that are crucial for our whole society. In my exploration I have found out that the Czech film of the 1990s generally was subject to the dictate of commerce and market. Auteur films were eclipsed. Success with the public was most important to the creators, and to it they subordinated artistic ambitions of their projects. A common trend was also a humoristic view of the past they depicted. Comedies and tragicomedies concerning the period 1950 – 1989 have the highest viewer figures and also receive international awards (see Kolya /1966/ - Oscar).
