The Cimbalom in the Music of the 20th and 21th Centuries

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce Cimbál v hudbě 20. a 21. století se zaměřuje na tento lidový nástroj v různých proměnách. První kapitola se věnuje obecným informacím: jeho vzniku a historii, výskytu v České republice a výrobcům na našem území. Další část práce se soustřeďuje na využití jak ve folklorní oblasti, tak na konzervatořích. Speciální pozornost je věnována právě fázi, kdy se nástroj přestal vnímat striktně jako lidový a pronikl i do sféry hudby klasické. Součástí jsou notové ukázky folklorních i klasických skladeb přímo upravených ke hře na tento nástroj.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis, called Twentieth and Twenty-First-Century Cimbalom Music, focuses on said instrument in its various metamorphoses. The first chapter is dedicated to general information about the cimbalom: its origins and history, occurence in the Czech Republic, and its manufacturers in our territory. The following section of the thesis concentrates on the employment of the instrument in folklore as well as in conservatoires. Special attention is devoted to the phase in which the cimbalom ceased to be perceived strictly as a folk instrument and permeated also the classical sphere of music. Examples of sheet music of both folk pieces and classical compositions adapted for the cimbalom constitute a complementary part of this thesis.
