The concept of Central Europe and its interpretation

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce „Pojem Střední Evropa a jeho interpretace“ se zabývá definováním a vymezením prostoru střední Evropy z různých pohledů, a to historického a politického vývoje, charakteristik středoevropské společnosti a společných rysů středoevropské kultury. Pozornost je věnována rozboru koncepcí, které k interpretaci pojmu střední Evropa vypracovali různé politicky aktivní osobnosti nebo které reprezentovaly stanoviska podmíněná etnicky. Koncepce střední Evropy narušila politickými důsledky železná opona. To vyvolalo kritická vystoupení intelektuálních kruhů zejména na Východě se zdůrazněním přetrvávající kulturní jednoty střední Evropy. Předložená práce se opírá o domácí a zahraniční díla týkající se této problematiky. Do práce jsou včleněna i vlastní pozorování. Na závěr se formuluje autorčin postoj.

Abstract:

This bachelor´s thesis under the title “The concept of Central Europe and its interpretation” focuses on the definition and specification of how to look at the geographical area of Central Europe from the historical and political perspectives. The thesis also attempts to identify the typical characteristics and common attributes of Central European society. Detailed analyses of Central Europe concepts created by different active politicians or outstanding personalities representing ethnical perspectives are presented. All of the historical concepts of Central Europe were disrupted by the political impacts of the iron curtain. This situation resulted in numerous critical statements and active efforts of the intellectuals in Central and Eastern Europe, the main goal of all of these having been the repetitive highlighting of the continuously existing cultural coherence of Central Europe. The submitted thesis is based on and refers to both native and foreign works addressing this area of interest. The thesis incorporates personal experience and observations of the author. In the end, author´s statement is presented.
