Abstract:

Diplomová práce s názvem “The Use of Mother Tongue in EFL Classes” se skládá ze dvou hlavních částí. První část je teoretická a zahrnuje přehled předchozího výzkumu. Druhá část práce je praktická a je založena na výsledcích kvalitativního a také kvantitativního průzkumu. Práce si klade za cíl podporu a zlepšení v oblasti používání cílového jazyka, tj. anglického jazyka, v hodinách anglického jazyka a zároveň také možnost použít mateřský jazyk v určitých situacích. Stěžejní důraz práce je kladen na výzkum tohoto fenoménu v rámci frekvence a různorodosti co se týká středoškolských studentů (v rozpětí od 15 do 21 roků věku). Existuje mnoho příležitostí, ve kterých studenti používají svůj mateřský jazyk nadměrně místo anglického jazyka a práce se snaží identifikovat tyto případy a navrhnout možné způsoby řešení.

Abstract:

The Diploma Thesis entitled “The Use of Mother Tongue in EFL Classes” consists of two main parts. The first part is theoretical and includes review of the previous research. The second part of the thesis is practical and is based on the results of qualitative as well as quantitative research. The thesis is aimed at promoting and enhancing the use of the target language, i.e. English language, in EFL classes and at the same time allowing the mother tongue to be used in particular situations. The main focus of the thesis is on investigation of this phenomenon within the framework of frequency and diversity as far as secondary school students (ranging from 15 to 21) are concerned. There are many occasions in which students use their mother tongue excessively instead of English and the thesis attempts to identify these cases and suggest possible ways of solving them.
