Abstract:

Rusko na konci osmnáctého a počátku devatenáctého století očima britských cestovatelů a reverendů Problematika pohledu Británie na Rusko ve zmiňované době v kulturním a společenském ohledu představuje hlavní úhel pozornosti předkládané práce. Ta se konkrétně zaměřuje na studium podílu určitých skupin Britů na utváření britského vnímání ruského světa. Základními zdroji práce se staly dva dobové prameny, poněkud odlišného tematického zaměření. Stoupající počet prvních z nich, cestopisných zpráv, naznačoval na konci osmnáctého století četnější cesty Britů směřujících na východ. Druhý klíčový pramen – literární produkce britských kněží působících při britské ambasádě v Sankt Petěrburgu.

Abstract:

Russia at the End of the Eighteenth and Beginning of the Nineteenth Centuries through the Eyes of British Travellers and Reverends. Issues related to Britain’s view of Russia in the specified period and from the specified cultural and social perspective are at the centre of attention in this thesis. Its particular focus is on examining a share of certain groups of Britons in shaping British perception of Russian world. The thesis draws upon two types of thematically different historical sources from the period in question. A growing number of the first type, travelogues, implied rather frequent travels to the east undertaken by Britons at the end of the eighteenth century. The second crucial type of sources – literary production by British reverends working at the British Embassy in Saint-Petersburg.
