"Afréntate de que yo / te enseño el vivir": The Gracioso and His Role of Adviser In Lope de Vega’s Drama

Abstract:

The thesis deals with the stock character of gracioso, the comic servant, in Lope de Vega’s drama, in particular with his adviser role, meaning the pieces of advice he gives to his master. This topic has never been examined separately, despite the fact that, according to our previous research, the pieces of advice form one third of all the gracioso’s dialogues. The first part of the goals focuses on the internal dramatic structure: the textual extent of the advisory dialogues, their functioning in the plot and their importance for the plot. The second part of the goals is aimed at the social part of the stock character and is based on the paradox of a servant giving advice to his lord. We explore this phenomenon in the context of the ongoing polemic about the ideological interpretation of Spain’s Golden Age drama, and in the conclusions we formulate arguments based on the discovered facts, that can contribute to the polemic.

Abstract:

Práce se zabývá typovou postavou tzv. graciosa, komického sluhy, ve hrách Lopeho de Vegy, konkrétně jeho rádcovskou úlohou, tedy rad, které povětšinou dává svému pánovi. Toto téma nebylo nikdy samostatně prozkoumáno, přestože dle našeho dosavadního výzkumu rady tvoří průměrně třetinu všech dialogů této postavy. První část cílů práce se týká hledisek vycházejících přímo z dramatické struktury, tj. rozsah rad a jeho diachronický vývoj, jazyková forma, fungování rad v ději a způsob a míru, jak děj ovlivňují. Druhá část cílů práce se zaměřuje na postavu jako sociální typ a je založena na zkoumání paradoxu, kdy sluha radí svému pánovi. Studujeme tento jev v kontextu stále probíhající polemiky o ideologické interpretaci dramatu španělského Zlatého věku a v závěru formulujeme na základě zjištěných faktů argumenty, které mohou do této polemiky přispět.
