Economic impacts of events on Czech firms in selected sectors between 2020 and 2022

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce zjišťuje, jak se zachovaly vybrané české firmy v kontextu ekonomických krizí v letech 2020 a 2022, které postihly celý svět včetně České republiky, a jaké dopady tyto události měly na vývoj těchto firem. Pro spoustu společností byly poslední dva roky spíše fatální, na druhou stranu jiné firmy dokázaly krizi využít jako příležitost. Především byly analyzovány kroky a rozhodnutí vedení firem a to, k jakým výsledkům tyto aktivity vedly. Příslušnost firmy k určitému odvětví samo o sobě nedeterminuje, jak silně bude krizí postižena, i když společnosti z oblastí oděvního průmyslu, turismu nebo gastronomie čelily mimořádně náročným podmínkám. Ty subjekty, které byly krizí nepříznivě zasaženy, ale rozhodly se situaci řešit a hledat jiná řešení, ať už v inovacích ve své nabídce, která by lépe reflektovala aktuální poptávku na trhu, byly schopné proměnit krizi ve svůj prospěch a vytěžit z toho zisk. Pro jiné subjekty byla také opatření proti šíření koronaviru určitou formou záchrany jejich podnikání, jelikož tato opatření změnila spotřební chování lidí. Není ojedinělé, že subjekt vyšel z krize silnější než předtím, jelikož byl schopný rychle reagovat na situaci na trhu a rozšířit svůj obchodní model. Některé společnosti z oděvního průmyslu byly zasaženy krizí tak moc, že se s důsledky na jejich finanční zdraví potýkají doposud.

Abstract:

This thesis investigates how selected Czech firms behaved in the context of the economic crises in 2020 and 2022, which affected the whole world, including the Czech Republic, and what impact these events had on the development of these firms. For many companies, the last two years have been rather fatal; on the other hand, other companies have managed to use the crisis as an opportunity. Above all, the actions and decisions of the management of the companies were analysed and what results these activities led to. The sector from which the companies originate does not necessarily determine what impact the crisis had on them, although companies in the clothing, tourism or catering sectors had a much more difficult situation. Those entities that were adversely affected by the crisis but decided to address the situation and look for other solutions, whether in innovations in their offerings that would better reflect current market demand, were able to turn the crisis to their advantage and profit from it. For other actors, the measures against the spread of the coronavirus were also a form of saving their business, as these measures changed people's consumption behaviour. It is not unique that an entity emerged from the crisis stronger than before, as it was able to react quickly to the market situation and expand its business model. Some companies in the clothing industry were so badly affected by the crisis that they are still struggling with the consequences on their financial health.
