Water resources in European Union

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se věnuje zpracování dostupnosti dat o kvalitě a kvantitě vodních zdrojů v zemích Evropské unie s ohledem na společnou vodohospodářskou politiku. Na základě literární rešerše jsou v teoretické části popsány hlavní významy vody, vysvětlena problematika spotřeby vody, jaké je využití v různých odvětvích a jak jsou vodní zdroje ohroženy. Dále je také vysvětleno, jak funguje vodní politika v rámci Evropské unie. V praktické části je zhodnocena přehlednost a dostupnost dat a hodnotících zpráv, reportů o kvalitě a spotřebě vody v jednotlivých členských zemích. Pomocí získaných statistických dat jsou zhodnoceny důležité faktory, které vodní zdroje ovlivňují. Většina členských zemí má data a reporty o vodních zdrojích pravidelně aktualizována a jsou dostupná v anglickém jazyce. U některých států tyto dokumenty chybí nebo nejsou přístupné široké veřejnosti, či nejsou možné dohledat v anglickém jazyce. Mezi hlavním zjištěním práce je, že se v posledních letech počty domácností připojených na čistírny odpadních vod dramaticky zmnohonásobil. V průběhu let odběry sladké vody zaznamenávají velké poklesy a to především v zemích, které vstoupily do Evropské unie v letech 2004 a 2007. Na evropské úrovni jsou největšími odběrateli vody domácnosti a zpracovatelský průmysl. U zemí s převahou sektoru služeb, jako je například Kypr, je spotřeba vody až tři krát větší v domácnostech než ve zpracovatelském průmyslu.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals to processing the availability of data on the quality and quantity of water resources in the countries of the European Union with regard to the common water management policy. On the basis of literature research, in the theoretical part are described the main meanings of water, the issue of water consumption, how it is used water in various sectors and how water resources are threatened. It also explains how water policy works within the European Union. The practical part evaluates the clarity and availability of data and evaluation assessment reports of water quality and consumption in individual member countries. Using the obtained statistical data, important factors affecting water resources are evaluated. Most member countries have regularly updated data and reports on water resources and are available in English. In some countries, these documents are missing or not accessible to the general public, or cannot be found in English. Among the main findings of the work is that the number of households connected to wastewater treatment plants has multiplied dramatically in recent years. Over the years, freshwater withdrawals have registered large decreases, especially in countries that joined the European Union in 2004 and 2007. At the European level, the largest consumers of water are households and the processing industry. In countries with a predominance of the service sector, such as Cyprus, water consumption is up to three times greater in households than in manufacturing.
