Abstract:

Diplomová práce „Sociální aspekty kategorizace: negativní dopady klasifikačních systémů a standardů na společnost“, se zabývá především principem konvergence, jenž funguje mezi společností a informačními artefakty, jakými jsou standardizované klasifikační systémy. Je zde demonstrováno prolínání neformální klasifikace, společenských postojů a mocenských zájmů do těchto systémů, stejně tak jsou zde posouzeny vlivy a efekty, kterými pak tyto systémy mohou zpětně působit na celou společnost nebo menší sociální skupiny. Práce poskytuje vhled do vývoje standardizovaných klasifikačních systémů a zkoumání jejich sociálních aspektů, popisuje také vztahy mezi formálními a neformálními klasifikačními systémy. Jádrem práce je pak ilustrace zmíněných jevů na dvou medicínských a dvou knihovnických klasifikačních systémech. Závěrem je nastíněn případ uplatnění extrémní klasifikační politiky, jenž představuje příklad naprosté destrukce společnosti prostřednictvím klasifikačních systémů.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis, "Social aspects of categorization: Negative influences of classification systems and standards on society", discusses the principle of convergence which functions between society and informational artifacts, such as standardized classification systems. The diffusion of informal classification, social standards, and power interests into these systems are demonstrated and assessed by how they influence and effect systems, as well as how these systems reversely influence society as a whole as well as smaller social groups. The work provides an insight on the development of standardized classification systems and the study of its socials aspects. It also describes the relationship between formal and informal classification systems. The core of the work then illustrates phenomena regarding two medical and two librarian classification systems. Finally, an example is shown in the form of a case outlined which displays the application of an extreme classification policy which represents an example of total societal destruction through classification systems.
