Presidency of the European Union as Instrument of Portugal Foreign Policy

Abstract:

Práce Předsednictví v Radě Evropské unie jako zahraniční nástroj Portugalska pojednává o možnostech prosazení zahraniční politiky malého státu prostřednictvím mezinárodních organizací. Na konkrétním případu jsem se snažila zjistit, jak a zda vůbec může stát velikosti a vlivu Portugalska prosadit své zahraničněpolitické cíle během předsednictví Rady EU v druhé polovině roku 2007. Po zařazení Portugalska do skupiny malých států se práce věnuje portugalské zahraniční politice a funkcím předsednictví. Důraz je kladen na vnější politiku EU a jako příklad jsou uvedeny dvě největší události první summit EU-Brazílie a druhý summit EU-Afrika.

Abstract:

The thesis Presidency of the European Union as an Instrument of Foreign Policy of Portugal discusses possibilities of enforcement small state's foreign policy through international organizations. In the particular case, I tried to find out how and in which conditions could state with size and influence like Portugal, enforcements its foreign policy's objectives during Presidency of the European Union in the second half of year 2007. After confirmed Portugal as small state, I presented its foreifn policy and focused on functions of a presidency. I stressed external relations of EU and I presented two main events in this field -the first summit EU-Brazil and the second summit EU-Africa.
