Influence of traditions and values on the status of women in the labour market and in education in Kazakhstan.

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá vlivem tradic a hodnot na postavení žen na trhu práce a ve vzdělání v Kazachstánu. Zjišťuje, zda v Kazachstánu stále existuje vliv tradic a hodnot na postavení žen ve společnosti, sílu tohoto vlivu a jakou skupinu žen nejvíce ovlivňuje. Empirická část práce je založená jak na datech z oficiálních zdrojů (různé statistiky), tak na datech z vlastního výzkumu, který byl proveden na vzorku populace žen v Kazachstánu ve věku 18–60 let. Z výsledků dotazníkového šetření bylo zjištěno, že tradice nejvíce ovlivňují starší generace žen a také ženy, které bydlí na venkově. Potvrdil se též vliv tradic a hodnot na genderovou nerovnost na trhu práce, přičemž tato genderová nerovnost se projevuje především jako mzdová diskriminace a nedostupnost řídících pozic pro ženy. Naopak byl vyvrácen negativní vliv tradic a hodnot na úroveň vzdělanosti žen. Obecně lze říci, že v současnosti mají ženy v Kazachstánu větší příležitosti na trhu práce a ve vzdělání.

Abstract:

This thesis primarily deals with the influence of traditions and values on the status of women in the labour market and in education in Kazakhstan. It finds out whether there is an influence of traditions and values in society and, in case of existence of that influence, identifies its strength and group of the women that it affects the most. This work is based on different official statistical data and research that was made on the sample of population of women in Kazakhstan aged 18–60 years. According to the results of the survey, traditions and values mostly affect the older generation of women and women living in villages. The influence of traditions and values on gender inequality in the labour market was also proven. Gender discrimination minifies itself primarily as wage discrimination and the inaccessibility of women to managerial positions. On the other side, the negative influence of tradition and values on women’s degree of education was disproved. In general, we can say that current women in Kazakhstan have now better opportunities in the labour market and education.
